Reflecting

I was cleaning up my pictures file on my computer and I ran across these three pictures of Austin.
Each one is taken about a year a apart. It's scary how fast he has grown. ( and even more scary that he looks just like his dad!!!) He's gone from 5ft 1 in the sixth grade to 5ft 10 in the 8th. His shoe size went from size 7 in the 6th grade to a size 12 in the eighth. It's hard for me to look at him and think he's my little boy.
The sadder scenario will be when I have pictures of Trenton showing his growth spurt.

Time Flies By

It seems like just yesterday when I was planning our Spring Break vacation. Yet, the reality is that spring is far gone. In fact, we have taken 2 vacations since then.

It seems like yesterday when school was letting out. However, the department schools are starting Back to School sales this week....

It seems like yesterday when I froze my tail off at Austins AllStar football tournament. But it was tonight I fought off mosquitoes at his first seasonal practice.

I am not sure where time has gone, but it surely has flown by. When I stop and think about how fast this year has seemed to move, I pause only in reflection.
I think things moving by quickly is a mere reflection of life being in order.
When we stumble through our days, is when life creeps and crawls along.

Triumphs, trails and unforgettable moments

Today, was filled with exactly what I want my blog to be about.... Family triumphs, trails and unforgettable moments that I can share with my family and friends that I do not get to talk to very often. (Or share with Jon while he is away!!)
The Trial-
Tonight was the school talent show. Trenton made the tryouts and had been practicing all week for the show. Although he has become a " master of karaoke", he has never sang without a karaoke screen , without vocals. His song choice was none other than one of Johnny Cash, but not Trent's usual "Ring of Fire". Instead, he chose "I Walk the Line." He even dressed the part with black glasses and all black attire.
Upon introduction, he seemed rather nervous, but managed to get out " Hello, my name is Trenton Walls...." which set the crowd laughing. After his first "hmmmm", clapping began and it was really loud. I could tell Trenton couldn't hear the music. He didn't come in on time, but managed to get back on pace. When he got to the third verse his face turned fire red and he forget some words. He put his hands over his face momentarily, but then got back on track. He did sing the song rather well for not ever singing like that before. At the end, he got a standing ovation from his class. That made him feel better, but he didn't come back in the room.
The show wasn't half bad. His friend, Cole, sang and did really well. Most of the elementary kids sang along with vocals, Trenton and Cole were really the only two who didn't. The High School talent was great. There are two twin brothers who play the guitar very well, so they rocked the school.

The unforgettable moment-
As, I tried to stay focused on Trent's performance, my heart sank for him. Austin, sitting beside me, looks at me ( while clapping for his brother) and says " I don't know why he is so nervous, he sings really good." And, when Austin friends cheered for him, Austin actually seemed proud of his brother.

The Triumph-
there was a dessert auction at the talent show to support the Senior trip. ( a cruise.And not on the Belle of Louisville like mine was!!!) Anyway, I told Austin to bid on anything he wanted. Most desserts went for $10-$15 dollars. (except for the pound of peanut butter fudge that went for $90).
Austin waited anxiously, finally there were iced brownies. He bid well against his Friend Katie and won. Well, I am not so sure $22 for brownies is a win, but he was happy.
As I left the school, the principal told me to enjoy the brownies and tell Trent he did a great job. He then said, you have wonderful kids....
That was all I needed.
